Leslie Ficcaglia studied at New York City's Art Students' League and has also taken classes and workshops with regional artists. Working in her studio on the Manumuskin River in southern New Jersey where she has lived for over 25 years, Ficcaglia is deeply involved in efforts to protect and celebrate her area's special natural resources. In 1995 her canvases shifted from landscapes of the rivers and marshes to images of the people of the region. Currently her work consists mostly of commissioned portraits, and her paintings of public and private figures have been featured in local and regional newspapers. As another artist commented: "Your website is gorgeous! I love the first portrait. Really incredible work! I've never quite clicked with the concept of portraiture, but that first picture explains something new; it's not about vanity; it's about identity. What a break-through for me, so thank you!"
