After 20 yrs as editorial artist/illustrator for The Cincinnati Post, I decided to launch Livingston Studio, Ltd. in December, 1995. Freelance illustration would allow me the time to pursue a lifelong dream of landscape and figurative painting.
Though I enjoy varied subject matter and media, I am presently exploring the rural beauty surrounding our home in Clermont Co. I strive to achieve an intimacy, a remembrance of place, using the play of light, time of day, pushing and exploring color to achieve the mood I'm after.
Ironically, though my commercial background is figurative, the landscape has spoken to me all my life, from my childhood growing up on the Kentucky River. And now I'm exploring it anew, using it as stepping stone to wherever it leads. By far, nature is the greatest teacher for studying composition, value and color. And best of all, I don't have to worry about, "getting the eyes right. . ."
